The Fanfictionary U & V

The Fanfictionary Parts U and V....

U

Definitions that appear in bold are defined elsewhere in The Fanfictionary.

Uber - A story involving characters who resemble, either mentally or physically, the canon characters. They can also be a Alternate Reality fic with the actual canon characters, or a fic with the characters reincarnated into modern day lives.

Uberauthor - A fanfiction author who's work is well known and well liked.

Uke - A Japanese term that started in Anime and Manga, the Uke is the submissive partner is a sexual relationship. If fanfiction, the Uke can have any kind of appearance, and any type of personality, and they do not have to stay as Uke either. The word is primarily used in Shounen-ai and Yaoi and is scarcely used in Shoujo-ai and Yuri . The opposite of the Uke is the Seme.

Unconventional Couple (or UC for short (A. K. A. Alternate Pairing)) - A pairing that is not even hinted at in the canon.

Unresolved Sexual Tension (or UST for short) - Sexual tension between two canon characters that cannot or has not been resolved for whatever reason.

Urple - A sickening mix of pink and purple, usually used to mock Mary Sues , as they are rather fond of dressing in such colors. It can also be used in Purple Prose , taking the place of the "Purple" to be even more of an insult.

V

Vanilla - An unimaginative, unoriginal, hopelessly boring, Sexfic.

-verse - A suffix added to the end of a canon title to describe the canon's universe. The Potterverse, for Harry Potter, is the most common example. If the name of the canon is more than two syllables long, then the fans may shorten it to make it sound better.

Vignette - A Vignette is a short One-Shot fic , closely related to a Missing Scene , whose purpose is to help explain and clarify something bigger. Very short, but more developed than a Drabble .

Virtual Season (A. K. A. Season N) - A interesting type of fanfiction that appears when writers get together to continue their favorite TV series after it has ended. They compile several original fanfictions, enough to make up an entire TV season. A variation of the Expanded Universe, and a close, close relative of a Continuation . The advantage to doing these is you seldom have to worry about being Jossed .
