AMoS Chapter 3-6

Title: A Moment of Stupidity Part 3: 1,118 - 1,450
Rating: R for language, and mentions of RAPE and M/M SLASH. Don’t like, then don’t read.
Disclaimer: Castlevania and its characters and situations are the sole property of Konami. I am making no money or profit off of this fanfiction and no copyright infringement is intended.
Summary: AU. What if Joachim Armster had lived through his fight with Leon Belmont? What might have been different? Well hang on, because Joachim is going to tell you all about it. From his kidnapping and forced turning to his rescue from the ruins of Walter’s castle, and from Trevor's birth and to Richter's death of old age, he tells all - and blames it all on Leon while he's at it.
Section Summary: Part 3 covers the 332 years between Leon's death and Castlevania: Dracula's Curse.
SPOILER WARNING!!! Spoilers for many of the Castlevania games!!
WARNING!! This fic my offend the religious! Read at your own risk!
A/N: Let me state for the record, I am NOT an Alucard hater. I just think he's the series' biggest whiner. XD
A/N 2: This chapter was an awkward pain in the ass to write. Just so you know. XD
A/N 3: I know I said that Castlevania Legends would be in the story, but after doing the math, I realized that having her adventure in there would give Dracula no time to raise Hector and Isaac, like I had planned. Sonia is still in there of course as Trevor's mother, she just no longer defeats Dracula herself, thus giving time for Alucard, Hector, and Isaac to grow up.

6.
Fear and Loathing

In the year 1447, 13 years after I had last seen Mathias and Adrian, I was visiting with Lamont when he confided that Sonia had seemingly met that special someone. He hadn't met the boy yet, but he just knew that she was seeing someone. There had been whispers in the family that it was time for Sonia to be married off, and the child had protested vehemently against it. Lamont was holding off in case there was someone that she was interested in.

It was then that Sonia came through the door with a cheerful: “I’m home, Uncle!”. She breezed into the room, and my nose twitched. She was covered with a familiar scent, and I gave her a knowing look. She blushed and hurried out of the room. Lamont looked at me questioningly, and I simply shook my head.

Later I cornered Sonia while Lamont was otherwise occupied.

“How long?” I asked.

“Not long.” she admitted with a blush.

“And neither of you have told anyone?”

“The family would never approve, Uncle Joachim, so no.”

“And he hasn’t told his father?”

“No,” she shook her head sadly “Alucard -”

“Alucard?”

“He changed his name to show that he stands opposite of his father. He said he could no longer in good conscience remain with him."

“So Mathias is not handling Lisa’s death well at all then.” I remembered how Silvanus had said that the destruction of his second bond would likely destroy Mathias’ sanity completely, and I suddenly had a feeling that I should have let Jonathon take a swing at him back then.

“No,” Sonia answered me “He said that he was no longer the father that he knew and loved.”

I nodded in understanding and was silent for a moment.

“Uncle Joachim?” Sonia said hesitantly “You’re not going to tell anyone, are you?”

I smiled at her. “No, child, I’ll keep your secret. Just please be careful. There is no telling how Mathias will react if he learns of the two of you.”

She shook her head. "He won't. Alucard hasn't spoken to his father in three years."

"Still, be careful."

"We will."

Lamont never asked me if I knew who Sonia's interest was, but I had a feeling he knew. Whatever the reason, he resisted any attempts to marry her off, which he was able to do despite no longer being the head of the family. There were quite a few grumbles from the rest of the family, but no one challenged Lamont on it.

For now, at least.

By then, Kerwin was beginning to fret. Matatias had been asleep for 188 years, and he showed no signs of waking. His burns had healed slowly during his sleep, and we hoped that meant that he would wake soon. Silvanus told us otherwise.

"He died, child." he explained gently to Kerwin "He was horribly injured. Bringing one back from such a thing cannot be done overnight. He is alive, so he will wake. You do not have to worry about him dying in his sleep. When he is completely healed, then he will wake."

Kerwin nodded miserably, and Silvanus gave his shoulder a reassuring squeeze. The three of us then shared dinner, and as Silvanus and I were leaving to return to our own homes, I asked him about the time that Walter had revived me after a hunter had driven a sword through my heart. I was at a loss to understand how Walter had revived me so quickly and easily whereas Silvanus could not do the same to Matatias.

Silvanus sighed. "He lied to you, Joachim, that is why."

I was startled. "He lied?"

"Yes, he did not possess that kind of power. If he had lived, he would have gained it within a century or two, but he did not have it during his life."

"Then what did he do? What happened to me?"

"Likely you had just been seriously hurt and nearly died, and he fed you enough to prevent that."

I shook my head in disbelief. "Why would he lie to me about such a thing?"

"I think you know the answer to that." Silvanus said gently.

I nodded; Walter had never needed a reason to do anything by then; his mind had been seriously eroded by overuse of the Ebony Stone. Silvanus surprised me by pulling me into a hug, and then he departed for home.

In the early winter of 1449, word filtered down to me that Sonia was in serious trouble. I visited the Belmont lands to see the family up in arms with angered whispering about Sonia consorting with the devil's child making the rounds. I knew then what she had done, and it was confirmed when I visited Lamont's house and smelled the change in her scent that told me loud and clear that she was pregnant.

"Is it Adrian's?" I asked, even though I already knew the answer.

She nodded, not saying a word.

"Does he know?"

This time she shook her head, which surprised me. Adrian should have a parent/child bond with his child, though I supposed it was too early in the pregnancy for it to form. I would have to ask Silvanus or Kerwin about it. Even without the bond though, he should have been able to tell by scent that she was pregnant.

Lamont had confined her to her room, and it was the first time I had ever seen her truly angry with her, though perhaps anger isn't the right word. He was furious with her.

"How could she do something so incredibly stupid, Joachim?" he raged as he paced back and forth in the library of his house, his crippled leg not slowing him down a bit "I have protected her thus far, but I cannot protect her from this. My sister made the discovery, and she has told everyone. There are some that want her driven off, others want that child killed as soon as it's born, as to not taint the bloodline."

"Do they know that she's carrying Mathias' grandchild specifically? Or do they just think she's consorted with some random vampire, and how in the hell did they find that out to begin with?"

Lamont flopped down into the nearest chair, looking weary and frustrated. "I do not know the answer to how they found out. All I know is that they do know who's grandchild she's carrying, and they want it, and her, as far away as possible, with others wanting them both dead." He sighed. "My only hope is that Adrian will take responsibility for his son or daughter and remove them from here as soon as possible."

I had my doubts about that; I firmly believed that Adrian knew. If he couldn't even face up to the fact that he had gotten her pregnant, there was no way that he would take his child in after its birth.

A few weeks later, I visited Silvanus at the small house that he built after he had given the castle to Walter and asked him if he knew anything about quarter breeds.

He smiled sadly at me." Yes, Joachim, I had a few quarter breed grandchildren. Why do you ask?"

I sat down in an offered chair with a sigh. "Sonia Belmont is pregnant by Mathias' half breed son."

"Ah, I understand, and you want to know what she'll be dealing with." He nodded. "Well, to start with, quarter breeds have enhanced senses and sharper reflexes, and they are a little stronger and disease resistant. They can still easily pass for human, as they aren’t so strong that it can’t be explained away.”

“What do you mean?” I asked.

“Let me explain it this way: if a fight where both were equally skilled, the quarter breed would win. In a fight where the human was more skilled, the human would win. Their abilities are mostly in the acceptable range for humans, they are just near the top of that scale. Of course some of it depends on the strength of the half breed parent at conception. The stronger the parent, the stronger the child.”

“Do they need to feed?”

“No, they do not, though if they are injured enough to cause serious bleeding, they may feel the thirst, though it won’t be very strong.”

“How long do they live?”

“Depending upon their power level, anywhere from normal human lifespan to a century.” He looked at me. “I take it the Belmonts are not happy with this.” It wasn’t a question.

“No, they’re furious, and many of them wish harm against her and her child.”

“Where is the child’s father?”

“I do not know. Sonia insists he doesn’t know, but I have a hard time believing that he cannot sense the child or smell the change in her scent.”

“He may not be able to sense the child. Bonds don’t always form between the half breed parent and quarter breed child. If they do, they are weak and weaken further over distance. He may be out of range, if you will. As to not noticing the scent change, has he even been near her since the conception?”

That brought me up short; I didn’t know. “I don’t know.” I confessed. “I haven’t even asked her.”

“Maybe you should. He may honestly not know, especially if no bond has formed between him and the child.”

I nodded in understanding and thanked Silvanus for the information. As I was leaving, he called out to me:

“Joachim?”

I turned around to face him.

“There is one thing I must mention. That child will have fangs at birth. They will be very small at first and only noticeable from up close, but they will be there. Once the child has gotten older, they will be a little larger than normal human canines, but they will have a very prominent point on them. And they will be fully functional; the child will be capable of doing serious damage if it bites someone, so be careful.” I nodded in understanding again and showed myself out.

Later Sonia admitted to me that she hadn’t seen Adrian in over two months, right about the time the child had been conceived. I ask her where I could find him, and she refused to answer.

“You would deny him the right to know his son or daughter?” I asked.

“He would refuse to meet him or her.” she said with conviction “He has already stated that he does not want to start a family for fear of his father finding out. He will not acknowledge his child in an attempt to keep him or her safe.”

“So you’re going to raise it alone?”

She shrugged. “What choice do I have?” She let out a shuddering sigh. "I don't know what else to do, Uncle Joachim."

I said nothing; there was nothing more to say.

******

Trevor Christopher Belmont was born in the summer of 1450. Sonia flat out refused to give her son the name or Tepes or Cronqvist, to the anger of many that felt such a child did not deserve the Belmont name. Others wanted the child driven off or done away with completely. Fearing for the infant's life, I asked Silvanus to perform a few warding spells that would prevent anyone that intended him harm from touching him, which he was glad to do. Sonia also asked me to be Trevor's godfather, which surprised me, since I had not been a godfather since Leon's children, but I gladly accepted.

Trevor was a beautiful infant, with dark blue eyes and Mathias' rich, dark, brown hair. He gazed into my eyes at the font and laid passively in my arms during the ceremony, and I hoped that he would have the strength to grow up surrounded by hatred without letting any of it touch him.

True to Silvanus' words, Trevor was born with fangs, two small pointed nubs just barely visible above his gums. Only Sonia, Lamont, and myself saw them at first, and we hoped to keep it that way as long as possible. We didn't need anything else getting the rest of the family's collective hackles up. They were angry enough over Trevor as it was. Sonia continued to live in her uncle's house, for her protection as well as Trevor's, and she only ventured out when she had to. I was over there during those early months, to better protect my godson from his own family. It saddened me, because I knew that Leon would have accepted Trevor with no difficulties at all. The only other one besides Sonia and Lamont that accepted Trevor as a Belmont was surprisingly Jonathon. As holder of the whip and head of the family, he was able to keep the most rabid members back and away from Trevor and his mother, which Sonia greatly appreciated.

Needless to say, Adrian never came to see his son.
