Scary Stuff

I love a good scare - as long as it's of the entertainment kind. Real scares? I hate those with a passion. Anyway, I was flipping through my most recent edition of Game Informer (need to renew btw) when a game was mentioned in an article as having terrifying atmosphere. Well since Hollywood hasn't been able to deliver the screams - the last good horror movie for me was Below back in '01 - I figured I'd look into it.

Well the game may be just a bit much for me. Watch the vid to find out why. If you're really brave, do as the game developers advise and watch it in the dark with headphones on.

I have the demo, and I've only played for about ten minutes so far. It's hard to play more than that, since I literally jump at every sound. If the game didn't have those horrifying monsters, I would likely already have breezed through. Creepy atmosphere = good. Scary shit that pops out at you like a nightmare-in-the-box = bad. I like to think though, that I won't react like this dude did:

If I find it, I'll probably get it - and play it with lights on and headphones off. XD

Youtube updated their embed code to use iframes, which Dreamwidth doesn't allow since the type of coding poses a security risk. To embed on Dreamwidth, you have to use the old embed code until Dreamwidth fixes the problem. Check the box for "use old embed code" when you hit the embed button on a Youtube video to get the old code. :D

No problem! Sorry I haven't been on MSN. My internet is just terrible lately. It constantly disconnects, and it's just become an overall chore to use. ;_;

I LOL'd on those guys and their running commentary!!

I tried playing this game (in the dark with headphones) but for me the way the movement happens in the game (and others) I get motion-sick if I play for more than 20 minutes. We're talking severe dizziness and nausea.

For myself (a self-proclaimed coward when it comes to horror), I didn't find it overly scary. It was disconcerting though - I wouldn't want to be the main character but I was more frustrated than anything 'cos I got stuck and couldn't advance further in the game.

That dude is hysterical isn't it? In more ways than one! XD I love the milkyy ways part myself.

That sucks that you get motion sickness, though I suppose it's good that you can play for a little bit before it hits. :)

Oh great, now that a self proclaimed coward has played, I'm gonna HAVE to play now. *steels nerves* I'll play... as soon as I get off work. XD

Omg, that guy is fucking hilarious. XDDDD I was dying watching that. The game doesn't seem that scary, though... Maybe it would be different if I was actually playing instead of watching.

Playing through the demo has made me paranoid as hell. The monsters are infrequent enough that they aren't frustrating, but they're common enough that they have me jumping everytime the old castle so much as creaks.

I just love listening to that guy scream. It never gets old. XD

[identity profile] ninjakitters.livejournal.com 2011-02-21 05:16 pm (UTC)(link)
Hahaha, oh man. XD Sounds fun. Too bad I'm terrible with puzzles. All the great survival horror games are mostly built on puzzle gameplay. ;_;

The subtitles make it better. XDDDDD

[identity profile] eiahmon.livejournal.com 2011-02-21 07:27 pm (UTC)(link)
The good news is that the puzzles aren't too difficult. Most of them consist of: pic up object A and combine it when objeect B and make action C happen, and the game gives you hints throughout. If you get stuck anyway, there's always internet walkthroughs. XD

And yes, your new comp can run this game if you wish. ;)

NO!NO!NO!NO!NO!NO!NO!NO! Oohhhhhh! OHH!

XD

Well, that sounds pretty simple. XD Silent Hill puzzles make me wanna cry. D8

Is the game free and/or can become "free"? ;DDD

LMAO. YES. XDDD

[identity profile] eiahmon.livejournal.com 2011-02-22 05:24 am (UTC)(link)
Sadly no, the game is not free, but I've heard it's dirt chap. ($15 according to one guy online), but you can download the demo for free off the game's website at:

http://www.amnesiagame.com/#main

The full game can also be bought there, but I'm going to try and find it in teh store before giving them my debit card number.

[identity profile] ninjakitters.livejournal.com 2011-02-23 06:38 pm (UTC)(link)
Sweet! I'll download the demo. XDDD Thanks. <333

Buying the game now. I couldn't get it off the shelf, so I'm getting it off Frictional Games' online store. I'm also getting their Penumbra trilogy, and since I'm doing that, I'm getting Amnesia at 40% off, so $32 for all four games. XD

What a steal.

[identity profile] ninjakitters.livejournal.com 2011-02-25 10:22 pm (UTC)(link)
Nice deal!

In other news, I started playing the Amnesia demo a few days ago, AND HOLY SHIT I AM TERRIFIED. ;___; My sanity keeps running out because I take too long to proceed out of fear of some shit coming after me in the next room, so I end up blacking out and shitting bricks. And now I'm stuck in an area with the door to advance blocked from the other side, so I just keep running around in circles in a panic, and I'm too scared to actually figure out how to get past the door and AAAAH. ;____; *cries* HALP.

[identity profile] eiahmon.livejournal.com 2011-02-25 10:38 pm (UTC)(link)
Glad you are scared. XD That's the whole point. ;)

If you're where I think you are then you need to move some crates aside one or two rooms before the blocked door to find a space that you can crawl through to proceed.

In other news, I bought those games two days ago and I still haven't been able to download them because I keep getting 403 forbidden page whenever I try. I fired off an email to Frictional Games about it, but I haven't received a reply yet. Hopeuflly I get the games soon. I wanna play damnit!

[identity profile] ninjakitters.livejournal.com 2011-02-25 10:43 pm (UTC)(link)
I really didn't think it would be this scary! @____@

Oh, okay. I'll try that. Thanks! XD

Ouch, I'm sorry about that. DDDD8 Hopefully they can fix the problem. <3

You on messenger? Wanna chat?

[identity profile] ninjakitters.livejournal.com 2011-02-25 10:55 pm (UTC)(link)
I'll try. Hopefully, my internet decides to behave. ;_;

[identity profile] eiahmon.livejournal.com 2011-02-25 10:56 pm (UTC)(link)
Well if it doesn't, you'll be in good company, cause mine's been being a bitch all damn day. XD
