Lmao! I'm liking your mental picture of the Belmonts, Alucard, and various versions of Drac all standing together against the Cullens. That series is an abomination.
As for the history of Vlad III, I've read it in various places, such as one of the McNally and Florescu books (I can't remember which one I have, it's buried somewhere in storage annoyingly), and on lots of different websites. The name of his first wife is unknown, and to her, his first son Mihnea cel Rau was born. Mihnea eventually took the throne after a small detour via Vlad's older brother Vlad the Monk and his son. Mihnea took after his father a lot, but was murdered before he could reach his level of cruelty. Mihnea was then succeeded by Mircea III Dracul. Vlad Tepes also bore more sons to his second wife, Ilona Szilagyi (cousin of King Matthias Corvinus of Hungary), one of them being Vlad IV, and the other possibly called Mircea.
It will be interesting to see if they do indeed follow the history books, and have Vlad beheaded.
Wow! That's a ton of info! *looks things up on wikipedia* Dude, sounds like Vlad's son and grandson were little hellions. XD Runs in the blood it seems. XD That entire family seems to have some rough luck.
You're welcome! :) Like I said, I'm a bit of a geek for when it comes to this stuff. I've researched it quite a lot over the years. Yeah, they were pretty brutal, those members of the Draculesti. Then again, they lived in brutal times. It's also fascinating how in many parts, Vlad III is still to this day seen as a hero. Apparently, the gold cup that he placed in a town square for the people is still there.
In Dracula Untold, it would be interesting to see if Vlad's son is based at all on Mihnea, considering what his son says in voice-over in the trailer.
Well the trailer said it best, I think. Sometimes what the world needs is a monster. Considering the Turks kept harassing Wallachia for so long, I can see why he's considered a hero there today.
If I ever rewrite AMoS I'll have to put Vlad in there somewhere, have the Belmonts be one of the noble houses that supported him, and have him not want to do anything to them because well, they take care of the supernatural while he takes care of the Turks. XD It wasn't until I was about to write Trevor's leaving to defeat the vampire Dracula that I realized I had forgotten all about an important piece of history for that area.
It would be. We shall see, come the tenth of next month. XD
Oh yeah! Not long to wait now. :) I must admit that it's interesting that this film's coming out now, seeing as it feels a little bit like history repeating itself to an extent in some parts of the world.
If you do take that route for AMoS in a rewrite, how would you then make the connection betwene Mathias and Dracula? Would you have it that Mathias is masquerading as this Boyar Vlad III, and the Belmonts are in suppor of him, but then Joachim finds out who he really is?
I plan to cheese the hell out of it, and keep Mathias and Vlad III as two completely separate people. I still think Iga was lazy in making up a new backstory for Dracula in LoI without taking into account that the real Dracula (as real as Bram Stoker's Dracula could be at any rate.) was already fulfilling that role.
Sounds good! While I will always have a place in my heart for going yeah, Mathias somehow adopts the name Vlad Tepes, it's always been by trying to put my ignore the hand-waviness of it hat on. It would be interesting to see how it all fits in in your rewrite. Would you then make Adrian the youngest of his sons, and only dhampir one of them, born to a different mother, or have it that one of Vlad's real life sons become Alucard? Interestingly, if you take the classic-timeline original idea of Alucard being a full vampire who originally possibly sided with his father but changed sides thanks to either Snia or Trevor's help, Al could sort of be worked into being Mihnea originally.
Mathias will still become the vampire Dracula - calling himself the son of the devil - while Vlad III will just remain ruler of Wallachia and one the Belmonts support. I'm going to ignore the whole thing from SotN that said Mathias changed his name to Vlad Dracula Tepes in all likelihood, simply because I've been thinking about this for years and there is no way for it to make sense. Then again, I might come up with something and make it work, you never know.
But that of course requires that I rewrite AMoS, and I am in no hurry to do so, even though I want to. Maybe once Blood Is is finished, I'll revisit the idea. XD (besides you just gave me some interesting ideas there. XD)
Then again, it can also be explained as a misunderstanding. Sometime in the fic, Joachim mentions some idiot by the name of Bram Stoker and how he got the stories of Vlad III and Mathias mixed up and then wrote a damned book about it. XD
I can see Mathias now. "Hmmm, I like that. Yeah that would work, especially if I use the 'devil' meaning instead of 'dragon'. This will put the fear of me into them! Haha!"
Now stay tuned, because I plan to have the next chapter of Blood Is up within the hour. XD
