Bedtime - A Buck-Tick One Shot
Rating - PG-13 for mild language
Summary - Ani is trying to sleep. Atsushi, Hide, Hisashi, and Yuta have other plans.

ff120 posted on her lj. All day today while I was at work, this idea was knocking around inside my head, so I decided to let it out. Here is the fanart:

Bedtime
Atsushi stared intently at the cards in his hand, and then he let his eyes rove over the other three that were sitting in a circle nearby. They each held cards in their hands, and all of them were watching him intently, waiting for him to make his move. He looked down at his cards; he only had a few, and he was so close to victory that he swore he could almost taste it.
He looked at Yuta, who was sitting to his left. "Do you have any threes?"
The bassist smirked. "Go fish."
Hide and Hisashi groaned in sympathy as Atsushi learned forward and plucked a card from the pile on the floor in the center of their little circle and added it to his hand. He sighed in annoyance; it was a six.
Yuta grinned and pushed the long sleeves of the loose fitting red shirt that he slept in back from his hands before he turned to Hide, who was on his left. "Do you have any sixes?"
The guitarist blew his bangs back from his face with a heavy sigh and handed a card over to Yuta, who grinned and put a pair of cards down on the floor, leaving him with only three in his hand.
Atsushi took a moment to brush his own hair out of his face as Yuta continued his turn (Got any nines, Hisashi?") before he cast a glance at the hallway that led down to the bedroom where Ani was sleeping. They had just finished their latest tour, and they had all been too tired to head to their respective homes, so Ani had allowed them crash at his place. Ani had fallen asleep immediately, but Atsushi founds himself too wound to fall asleep, despite how tired he was. After a few hours of tossing and turning, he had given it up and gone into the living room, where he had found Yuta sitting on the couch, staring out the window, apparently suffering from the same problem. Within a few minutes, Hisashi and Hide had joined them. They had whispered quietly among themselves - Ani could be a demon when woken up from a deep sleep - for a few minutes before Yuta had produced a pack of cards from the stand next to the couch. From then, the game was on.
A giggle from the bassist on his left drew Atsushi's attention back to the game as Yuta missed a draw and play passed to Hide. Hide asked Hisashi for an ace, missed his draw, and play passed to Hisashi.
"Achan, do you have any threes?" and then it was Atsushi's turn to groan as he handed his only three over to the smirking guitarist. He now had one fewer card in his hand, but that was one less pair he could put together. Hisashi then looked at Yuta.
"Got any jacks?" The younger man pouted a tiny bit as he handed a card over, and Hisashi grinned widely as he placed a pair down on the floor and turned to Atsushi. "Got a queen?"
"Damn it, Hisashi." Atsushi grumbled "Do you have to take my queen?"
"Just hand it over already." Hisashi said as he reached over and plucked at the cards in Atsushi's hand.
"Have you been looking at my hand or something?"
"No, but Yuta is."
Atsushi whipped his head around to see Yuta leaning over and eyeing his cards with an eager smile. "Higuchi Yutaka!"
Yuta jumped back with a sheepish grin, and then -
"Go to BED!" All four of them jumped and looked up to see Ani standing in his pajamas behind Atsushi, looking tired and very, very grouchy. He drew himself up and sent them the Big-Brother-Says-You-Are-In-Sooooo-Much-Trouble Look of Doom, and the four of them gave nervous little laughs and sent him sheepish looks.
"But Ani," Yuta said "we were just playing a game of cards."
"Do you wanna play too, Ani?" Atsushi asked and then promptly realized that that hadn't been the smartest thing to say since the drummer's irritated gaze was now focused on him.
"What I want," he said quietly "is to sleep, but you four are out here making enough noise to wake the dead. Put the cards down, and go to bed."
"But Ani!" A collective whine came from the card players seated on the floor, and Atsushi firmly told himself that they weren't whining, thank you very much. They were just... um, stating their displeasure at being interrupted.
Ani glared at them. "Bed, now."
"Can we at least finish the game?" Hide asked, which only caused Ani's glare to intensify for a brief moment before his face softened.
"Just put the cards down." he said, sounding a lot less irritated but still very tired. "You can finish the game in the morning."
Atsushi, Hide, Hisashi, and Yuta all sighed in resignation and put their cards down before they stood up and headed off to their respective rooms, while Ani went back to his own bed.
Atsushi laid down and curled up under the blankets, grumbling that they weren't able to finish the game. He could have had them; he had been so close. He heard a disbelieving snort from Hide, whose room was right across from his own.
"You were getting slaughtered, Achan, so don't delude yourself."
"I would have gotten you eventually, Hide." Yuta called out from the next room over.
"I would have whipped all of you, given the chance." Hisashi stated with confidence.
"Yeah right, Hisashi." Atsushi called out.
"Do you four need me to tuck you in and sing you to sleep?" Ani's voice rang out from the master bedroom. "Would you like a bedtime story perhaps?"
"NO!" four horrified voices yelled in unison.
"Good. Then go to sleep!"
"Yes, Ani." the four of them answered at once, and then the house fell silent.
Atsushi rolled over onto his left side and yawned. "Couldda had 'em." he said sleepily as his eyes began to close.
"Atsushi!"
Atsushi chuckled quietly and smiled as he fell asleep.
